Islamabad High Court to Announce Verdict in Aafia Siddiqui Case

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court is set to announce its decision regarding the constitutional petition filed in 2015 by Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui of the Aafia Movement, seeking the release and wellbeing of her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

According to Aafia Movement, the last hearing for this case took place on December 3, 2025, before a four-member bench led by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, which included Justices Khadim Hussain Soomro, Muhammad Azam Khan, and Inam Amin Minhas. The bench requested a comprehensive briefing from the government and warned of contempt notices for non-compliance with court orders. Justice Tahir emphasized to the Additional Attorney General that the government had failed to submit an amicus brief or enforce court directives, resulting in contempt notices.

The case was initially scheduled for a hearing on January 20, 2026, but no roster was issued until February 9, 2026, when the decision announcement was posted on the IHC website. Muhammad Ayub, a spokesman for Aafia Movement Pakistan, noted that Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui is currently in Malaysia for a conference on epilepsy. He highlighted concerns about Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's health in an American jail and questioned the government’s inaction. Ayub stated that 25 crore Pakistanis await justice from the court and decisive action from the government, while acknowledging Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui's contributions to medicine and her advocacy for her sister.
