National Assembly Session Sees Low Attendance Among Members

Islamabad: During the 23rd session of the National Assembly, a significant portion of its members showed varying levels of attendance, with a notable absence from key figures, according to Free and Fair Election Network. The session, which took place over seven sittings from January 12 to January 22, 2026, saw only 56 out of 332 members attend all sittings, representing 17 percent of the assembly. In contrast, 47 members, or 14 percent, were absent for the entire session.

The report highlights that the sixth sitting had the highest attendance, with 222 members present, accounting for 67 percent of the current membership. However, the third sitting recorded the lowest attendance, with only 135 members, or 41 percent, in attendance. Overall, 276 members skipped at least one sitting during the session. Among the cabinet members, only one minister was present for all sittings, while seven did not attend any. Notably, the Prime Minister was absent for the entire session, whereas the Leader of the Opposition attended all four sittings following his appointment on January 16, 2026.
