NA-100 Election Results Highlight Representation Concerns in Faisalabad

Faisalabad: The Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-100 Faisalabad-VI was elected in the General Elections 2024 with only 26 percent support from registered voters, according to official results. The election outcome, based on the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system, has raised questions about the representativeness of the winner, who garnered 131,980 votes out of 507,880 registered voters.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, the Final Consolidated Result (Form-49) for the constituency showed a voter turnout of 55 percent, with 280,681 ballots cast. Despite securing 47 percent of the votes cast, the MNA did not achieve a majority among those who participated in the election. A total of 143,096 voters, or 51 percent, chose other candidates, indicating a lack of consensus on the winner's representation.

The runner-up candidate received 40 percent of the votes cast, while the third-placed candidate garnered five percent. The remaining candidates collectively obtained six percent of the vote share. Additionally, 5,605 ballots, accounting for two percent of the total, were declared invalid.

This report is part of an analysis by FAFEN highlighting how the FPTP system can distort representation in Pakistan's multi-candidate electoral contests. Such outcomes may lead to a sense of unrepresentation among voters and raise questions about the legitimacy of electoral results, potentially contributing to political instability.
