Karachi: Expressing serious concern over the recent surge in street crime in Karachi, Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor criticized the police for their inaction following the mugging of Aziz Fatima's son, PDP's media coordinator. Shakoor stated that the increase in crime is alarming as police appear inactive.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, three armed criminals intercepted Fatima's son at the FTC Flyover on Thursday, making off with a motorcycle, mobile phone, purse, and other valuables. This incident follows a similar robbery involving her other son on January 6 at the Nursery flyover.
Shakoor highlighted the troubling pattern of bandits operating on the bustling Shahara e Faisal and criticized the police for their lack of cooperation in registering FIRs. He described the police culture as reminiscent of the colonial era, where citizens face challenges in lodging complaints.
Shakoor urged the Karachi police to intensify patrolling and establish check posts in high-crime areas. He emphasized that both the police and rangers have failed to maintain law and order and demanded swift justice for Aziz Fatima and other affected citizens. Shakoor also called for the implementation of the Safe City project to enhance security in Karachi.
