Manama: President Asif Ali Zardari met His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at Al-Qudaibiya Palace, engaging in detailed discussions to bolster the relationship between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. The leaders explored avenues for enhancing economic cooperation and acknowledged ongoing bilateral engagements.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the meeting commenced with President Zardari receiving a Guard of Honour, followed by the conferral of the Order of Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa First Class. This award, the highest in Bahrain, recognized his contributions to fostering relations between the two nations. President Zardari, accompanied by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and other dignitaries, expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Bahraini leadership.
The discussions included a focus on translating political ties into economic collaboration. President Zardari invited Bahraini investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s sectors such as agriculture, IT, and healthcare. He emphasized the potential for joint ventures to drive sustainable growth and highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council in supporting foreign investors.
Defence cooperation was also a key topic, with President Zardari reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening links between the armed forces of both countries. He acknowledged the Pakistani community in Bahrain as a vital connection and appreciated the development contributions of over 116,000 Pakistanis residing in the Kingdom.
The two leaders underscored the need for coordinated international efforts, particularly concerning issues important to the Muslim Ummah. The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to peace and stability, with His Majesty King Hamad praising Pakistan’s contributions to regional and international cooperation.
