Lahore: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore hosted its 22nd Annual Sports Day at the City Campus Sports Ground, marking the start of 2026 with vibrant sports competitions. The event was inaugurated by former Chairman of UVAS Sports Board, Prof Dr Saleem Chaudhary, alongside UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus and UVAS Chairman Sports Board Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz.
The day’s activities saw participation from students across all UVAS campuses, including the City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang, and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal. The contests ran until late evening, concluding with a prize distribution ceremony.
Mr Tariq Mahmood Awan, Secretary Universities Governor House Lahore, served as the chief guest for the prize distribution, while Mr Imtiaz Warraich, Member Planning & Development, was the guest of honor.
In his opening remarks, Prof Dr Saleem Chaudhary expressed his pleasure at the enthusiasm displayed by UVAS students and acknowledged the university’s leadership for organizing such a substantial event. He emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities, especially sports, in providing students with opportunities for healthy engagement.
Prof Dr Muhammad Younus highlighted UVAS’s commitment to fostering talent, noting the university’s inclusion among the top ten best universities in Pakistan according to the Higher Education Sports Ranking. He underscored the role of sports in promoting a healthy society and extended New Year greetings to attendees.
The sports day featured a variety of competitions, including races, javelin and discus throws, martial arts, and gymnastics. Mr Ali Haral and Ms Zoha Habib were named the best male and female athletes, respectively.
Trophies were awarded to various teams across different campuses, with notable victories by Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) teams from City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, CVAS Jhang Campus, and CVAS Narowal.
The event concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals, and shields by Prof Dr Younus and other dignitaries. Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal highlighted the achievements of UVAS athletes in various competitions over the past year and celebrated the university’s standing in the Higher Education Commission Sports Ranking.
