Deepti Sharma Becomes All-Time Leading Wicket-Taker as India Completes T20I Sweep Over Sri Lanka

New Delhi: Deepti Sharma achieved a significant milestone in women’s cricket, becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals as India secured a 5-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder took her 152nd wicket in the fifth T20I, surpassing Australia’s Megan Schutt.

The 28-year-old Sharma reached the record in the 14th over of the match, trapping Nilakshika Silva leg before wicket. With this achievement, she now averages 19 after 133 matches in her T20I career. Her performance was crucial in India’s 15-run victory in the series finale, where they defended their total of 175/7.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a pivotal role with the bat, scoring 68 runs from 43 balls, including nine boundaries and a six. Reflecting on the team’s successful year, Kaur expressed satisfaction with the hard work paying off and emphasized the importance of maintaining their performance.

Kaur highlighted the significance of the upcoming months as India prepares for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales. The Indian team is set to open their campaign against Pakistan on June 14 of next year.
