Youth Innovators Tackle Climate Change at UET Lahore

Lahore: The Youth Climate Education and Fellowship Program 2025 concluded with a Climate Governance Innovation Challenge at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. Organized by Transparency International Pakistan, the event marked the end of a nine-month fellowship designed to transform climate governance ideas into practical solutions.

The fellowship engaged 40 young participants from across Pakistan, equipping them with knowledge and skills in climate governance, transparency, and sustainable development. Spanning April to December 2025, the initiative aimed to empower young leaders to address climate challenges with evidence-based approaches.

Dr. Izzat Iqbal Cheema, Director at UET Lahore, opened the ceremony, emphasizing the role of universities in fostering climate-conscious youth. He noted the importance of youth-led innovation for Pakistan’s climate resilience.

Ms. Nasreen Memon, Project Coordinator at Transparency International Pakistan, provided an overview of the fellowship. She highlighted its objectives and the tangible impact made by the fellows through research and community initiatives.

A centerpiece of the event was the Climate Governance Innovation Challenge, where fellows proposed solutions to real-world climate issues. Judges, including Ms. Rizwana Anjum and Ms. Ahad Yousaf Khan, evaluated the presentations on innovation and potential impact.

The session titled “Youth as Catalysts for Climate Action” focused on the importance of youth participation in policymaking, stressing that young professionals are change agents today.

The event concluded with the announcement of winners, award and certificate presentations, and closing remarks by the Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore. He praised Transparency International Pakistan for fostering youth leadership in climate governance.

A networking lunch followed, allowing fellows, faculty, policymakers, and practitioners to explore future collaborations.
