LAHORE: The Syndicate of the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore approved a budget of Rs. 4.870 billion for the financial year 2026-27. The budget emphasizes innovation, applied research, skill-based practical learning, and the enhancement of hands-on training to impart practical knowledge to students. It also focuses on improving educational facilities, services, and technology transfer to boost the livestock sector.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani chaired the 79th Syndicate meeting, announcing Rs. 917.349 million allocated for ongoing projects for the next financial year. Among these, Rs. 500.000 million has been earmarked for the "Strengthening of KBCMA, CVAS," Rs. 300.000 million for "UVAS Campus, Pattoki," and Rs. 117.349 million for the "Establishment of Wrestling Academy & Resource Center" under the HEC Project "Establishment of Kamyab Jawan Sports Academies and Youth Olympics HEC."
The Vice-Chancellor briefed the syndicate members on various academic and research activities, upcoming university development projects, and new initiatives. These include converting Ravi Campus Pattoki into an Agro-Livestock Tourism Resort and establishing the Pakistan Netherlands Dairy Development Center. Furthermore, he discussed the Center for Academic Development and Student Wellbeing, which aims to address student issues such as cultural shock and mental health.
Treasurer Mr. Muhammad Umar presented the budget, indicating an expected non-development income of Rs. 3.243 billion and non-development expenditure of Rs. 3.952 billion, resulting in a deficit of Rs. 709.529 million. To address this, the university plans to generate more income through various initiatives, including the production of foot and mouth vaccine, outsourcing of farms, increasing research-based products, and enhancing diagnostic and clinical services. Additional measures include introducing market-based degree programs and adopting austerity measures to manage recurring expenses.
The UVAS Syndicate also approved several administrative and academic issues in the interest of the university and its students.
