LAHORE: Punjab University has inaugurated the Center for Civility and Integrity Development (CCID), an initiative aimed at fostering tolerance and mutual respect in society. The event was officiated by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, with key university figures and students in attendance.

In his address, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali underscored the critical role universities play in social reform and national development. He highlighted the potential for collaboration between academic institutions and national bodies to promote societal values such as patience and respect.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Pro-Vice Chancellor and CCID Patron, stressed the importance of universities as forums for interaction among individuals from varied backgrounds. He emphasized that engaging with differing viewpoints is essential for a civilized society.

Brigadier Asjad Baloch advocated for increased cooperation between national institutions and universities. He noted that such partnerships are crucial for national security and the nurturing of the nation’s youth, who are seen as pivotal to the country’s future.

Director CCID Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan introduced the center’s objectives, focusing on strengthening the moral character of students alongside their academic pursuits. He highlighted the center’s mission to instill high ethical values in students to prepare them as responsible citizens.

Colonel Rehan Khan stressed the need for research on pressing national issues, asserting that modern research is vital for addressing societal challenges. He suggested that universities, through collaboration between faculty and students, are well-positioned to tackle issues of imbalance and extremism.

The ceremony concluded with participants agreeing on the importance of further strengthening ties between universities and national institutions. Faculty members and students expressed their commitment to collaborating with security institutions to achieve common goals.
