Islamabad: The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) held a workshop aimed at instilling responsible citizenship and Islamic ethical principles among its staff. The one-day event, titled “Improving Quality of Life on Campus: Promoting Responsible Citizenship Behavior in General and in the Wake of Islamic Identity in Particular,” aligns with the university’s strategic plan for 2022-2026.
The workshop comprised three sessions. Dr. Zara Tahir, from the Faculty of Management Sciences, discussed the concept of responsible citizenship within the university setting, emphasizing integrity, respect, and accountability. She highlighted the influence of individual behavior on the community and stressed ethical decision-making.
Dr. Faryal Umbreen, head of the Dawah Center for Women, led the second session, focusing on Islamic ethics and their application in professional and personal life. She encouraged integrating principles like honesty, justice, and compassion to create a harmonious campus.
The final session, conducted by Dr. Amat-ul-Rafi from the Faculty of Usuluddin, linked responsible citizenship to spiritual obligations based on Islamic teachings. She promoted inclusion, empathy, and communication, suggesting practical measures like cultural programs and feedback systems to cultivate a respectful campus atmosphere.
Participants engaged in discussions about applying these principles within the university. Many expressed interest in future sessions. Dr. Tahir affirmed that the workshop reflects IIUI’s commitment to nurturing a campus that values ethics and Islamic principles, aiming to build a community based on respect and harmony. The event signifies a crucial step in realizing the goals outlined in IIUI’s strategic plan to enhance campus life and foster ethical excellence.
