Advanced Ultrasound Machine Unveiled at Karachi’s Ojha Institute for Free Patient Care

KARACHI: A new ultrasound machine has been installed at the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases (OICD), offering patients complimentary access to advanced medical imaging. The device was inaugurated by Prof. Jehan Ara Hasan, Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, following a donation from the social welfare organization Soch.

Prof. Hasan highlighted that the machine’s installation will aid patients with tuberculosis and other chest illnesses, as OICD provides all services without charge. The ceremony was attended by Acting Director Dr. Ghulam Murtaza Sohoo, Dr. Faisal Fayaz Zubairi, Dr. Niaz Soomro, Dr. Hina, and representatives from Soch.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized Dow University’s commitment to supporting those in need through partnerships with governmental and non-governmental entities. She expressed gratitude to Soch for their contribution.

Dr. Zubairi noted that the portable ultrasound machine is a novel addition to OICD, allowing bedside service. It features Doppler imaging, aids in biopsy sample collection, and assists in lung fluid drainage.

In a related event, Prof. Hasan participated in a tree plantation initiative at OICD’s park as part of the Independence Day campaign. Concurrently, Dow University hosted table tennis and sketch competitions, with winners to be honored by Prof. Hasan on August 14.
