Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by emphasizing Pakistan’s determination to eliminate drug abuse and illicit trafficking from society. The day, observed annually to highlight the global drug issue, carries the theme “Breaking the Chain: Prevention and Recovery for All” this year, focusing on dismantling drug networks and enhancing prevention and recovery measures.
In his message, President Zardari highlighted drug abuse and illicit trafficking as significant global challenges that require unified international cooperation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to combating these issues, noting the country’s support for international and multilateral initiatives.
The president pointed out the serious threats narcotics pose to public health and the future of the youth. He emphasized the role of the Anti-Narcotics Force, working under the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, in tackling these challenges.
President Zardari called for increased awareness and education, particularly among the younger generation, about the dangers of drug abuse. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive strategy that includes prevention, education, treatment, and enforcement to establish a drug-free Pakistan.
The president also underscored the necessity of collaboration among government institutions, civil society, the private sector, and international partners to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking. He paid tribute to individuals who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against narcotics, underscoring their role in Pakistan’s commitment to this cause.
President Zardari urged citizens to unite in efforts to eliminate drugs and support national initiatives for a healthier and safer Pakistan. He expressed the government’s continued commitment to strengthening institutions, rehabilitation services, and preventive education to safeguard future generations and promote a drug-free society.
