Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed the National Assembly today, asserting that Pakistan has achieved military, diplomatic, and narrative victories over India. Bhutto Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and highlighted recent geopolitical tensions involving Iran, condemning strikes led by Israel and the United States.
During his address, Bhutto Zardari condemned attacks on Iran’s sovereignty, citing violations of international law and targeting of civilians. He noted the risks associated with attacks on nuclear facilities, which could threaten neighboring countries, including Pakistan.
Bhutto Zardari urged the Pakistani government to mobilize diplomatic efforts to oppose the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He drew parallels to historical conflicts, warning of the risks of global escalation reminiscent of World War II.
The chairman also addressed regional tensions with India, emphasizing Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue. He highlighted Pakistan’s narrative shift, which reasserted Kashmir as an international issue, countering India’s internal claims.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari accused India of undermining the Indus Water Treaty, warning of potential conflicts if the treaty is not respected. He stressed Pakistan’s readiness to defend its water rights.
The PPP chairman also criticized India’s attempts to label Pakistan as a “terrorist state,” celebrating Pakistan’s successful diplomatic engagements that thwarted such efforts. He praised Pakistan’s Foreign Office and diplomatic corps for their roles in these achievements.
Turning to domestic matters, Bhutto Zardari expressed support for the federal budget, noting increases in defense spending and social welfare programs. He acknowledged the government’s consultation with the PPP and highlighted areas where improvements were made.
Bhutto Zardari called for an “agriculture emergency” to address sector challenges, citing significant financial losses suffered by farmers. He advocated for policies to bolster food security and criticized certain governmental measures.
The chairman concluded by underscoring the importance of peace and dialogue between Pakistan and India, warning against actions that could escalate tensions. He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to representing the people’s interests through constructive engagement with the government.
