KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in collaboration with the Pakistan Film TV Journalists Association, held a ceremony to honor distinguished journalist Pervez Mazhar, marking his 55-year career in journalism. The event, which took place at the Haseena Moin Hall in the Ahmed Shah Building, also celebrated Mazhar’s 75th birthday with a ceremonial cake-cutting.
Prominent figures such as Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmed Shah, actor Mustafa Qureshi, and several senior journalists and artists attended the event. A.K. Memon moderated the proceedings.
President Ahmed Shah praised Mazhar for his contributions to both film journalism and cultural reporting, highlighting his integrity and dedication. Mustafa Qureshi commended Mazhar’s commitment to truthful journalism, noting his refusal to engage in “envelope journalism.”
Speakers, including Iqbal Latif and Maqsood Ahmed Yousufi, emphasized Mazhar’s professional excellence and his role in nurturing media talent. Shahzad Raza Naqvi and Wasi Qureshi acknowledged Mazhar’s influence in the industry and his efforts to spotlight stage artists.
Mazhar expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his career, attributing his success to the collective effort of his peers. He thanked Ahmed Shah and Mustafa Qureshi for their unwavering support and stressed the importance of quality in theatre.
The event concluded with remarks from comedian Kashif Khan, who lauded Mazhar’s honesty and dignity in his work, and commended the Arts Council for recognizing living legends.
