Karachi: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) spokesperson and Member of the National Assembly, Shazia Atta Marri, addressed a press conference at the Bilawal House Media Cell, condemning the Indian government’s actions following the Pahalgam incident. Marri criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what she described as provocative measures and baseless accusations against Pakistan, emphasizing that Pakistan is prepared to respond if necessary.
Marri supported PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s strong statement, which accused the Modi government of using the Pahalgam incident to distract from its own failures. She highlighted Bhutto Zardari’s remarks on the River Indus and criticized Modi’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as a reckless decision that could have serious consequences.
The PPP spokesperson further stressed that Pakistan, as a sovereign nuclear state, would not be intimidated by India’s aggressive stance and advised Modi to focus on addressing internal issues rather than blaming Pakistan.
Marri also accused the Indian media of promoting government propaganda instead of responsible journalism in their coverage of the incident. She pointed out Pakistan’s significant losses in its fight against terrorism, including the lives of security personnel and civilians.
On domestic matters, Marri questioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s handling of canal project discussions, insisting that decisions should be made through mutual consensus in the Council of Common Interests. She criticized the government’s failure to hold regular CCI meetings, as required by the Constitution, and reiterated the PPP’s commitment to constitutional processes and opposition to controversial canal projects.
In concluding remarks, Marri expressed respect for public protests against canal issues, emphasizing that every concern deserves attention.
