Karachi: Spotify Pakistan has announced its latest Global Impact list, highlighting the top 30 Pakistani tracks gaining international traction over the past six months. The list underscores Spotify’s dedication to promoting local culture on a global scale.

According to a statement by Spotify Pakistan, leading the list is Talha Anjum, who, alongside RADAR Pakistan artist Umair, has secured multiple spots with tracks like “love lost,” “smile,” “Heartbreak Kid,” and “Departure Lane.” His collaborations, such as “REGRETS” with Jevin Gill and Umair, and “BTDT (Been There Done That)” with Bilal Saeed, have significantly bolstered the global prominence of Pakistani hip-hop.

With hip-hop comprising over 60% of the top 30 tracks, Pakistan’s music scene is achieving a substantial international impact. The list includes contributions from artists like Shamoon Ismail, Jokhay, JJ47, and super-duper sultan, further solidifying the genre’s influence beyond national borders.

Spotify’s Senior Editor for Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Rutaba Yaqub, noted the remarkable reach of Pakistani music. “The dominance of Pakistani hip-hop tracks on the Global Impact List speaks to the genre’s power in storytelling and its growing fan base locally and worldwide,” Yaqub stated. Spotify’s curated playlists, including A.S.L.I and Desi Hip Hop, play a pivotal role in promoting local talent.

The rise of hip-hop in Pakistan is evident, with annual consumption increasing by over 180%. Spotify’s A.S.L.I playlist has been instrumental in connecting emerging and established hip-hop artists with international audiences, nurturing a community of fans who value the authentic storytelling that characterizes Pakistani hip-hop.
