Mazdoor Rally to Spotlight Labor Concerns

KARACHI: Hundreds are expected to gather for the “Mazdoor Rally” organized by the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) and the Home-Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF) on January 19, 2025, to address pressing labor issues such as wage disputes and contractual employment. The event, set to commence at 4:00 PM from Regal Chowk and conclude at the Karachi Press Club, aims to highlight the challenges faced by workers, including the actions of international fashion brands and policies perceived as anti-worker and anti-environmental.

According to a statement by Home-Based Women Workers Federation, the rally is intended to amplify discussions surrounding these labor challenges. Organizers hope media coverage will draw necessary attention to the workforce’s plight, emphasizing the need for policy changes.

Participants will march from Regal Chowk, a significant starting point for labor movements, proceeding to the Karachi Press Club, a crucial venue for raising public awareness. The rally underscores ongoing concerns about labor rights and environmental policies impacting workers worldwide.

The organizing bodies have urged media houses to send reporters and camera personnel to cover the event, underscoring the importance of publicizing these issues. By highlighting the rally, they aim to foster broader discussions on labor rights and environmental justice.
