Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board Hall of Famer, Waqar Younis, has been named the mentor of the Lions cricket team for the Champions One-Day Cup scheduled to take place from September 12 to 29 in Faisalabad. The announcement comes as part of the PCB’s efforts to enhance team performance with experienced leadership for the 2024-25 domestic season.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Younis, who has a distinguished playing and coaching career, will guide the Lions during the tournament. The Lions’ training sessions will be held at the National Cricket Academy, preparing them to compete among the country’s top 150 cricketers in the 50-over format. This tournament features a single-league format, with key matches including an early start against the Stallions on September 13, and high-stakes games against Panthers, Wolves, and Dolphins throughout the month.
Younis expressed enthusiasm about his role, emphasizing the competitive spirit and the unique format of the Champions One-Day Cup. He highlighted the importance of this tournament as a platform for players to demonstrate their capabilities ahead of major international fixtures, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
