Sindh High Court Urges Implementation of Educational Reforms in Karachi

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has directed the officials of the Karachi Intermediate Board to affirm their commitment to implementing significant educational reforms following a hearing on widespread examination issues. The court’s decision comes in response to a petition highlighting severe mismanagement during the 2022-23 academic year, which resulted in the failure of thousands of students.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the petition filed by Usaid Ahmed, represented by Advocate Khurram Lakhani, detailed multiple issues including a lack of textbooks, poorly managed examinations, and inappropriately challenging exam content. The fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Sarosh H. Lodhi from NED University, had previously recommended the removal of certain board officials and the introduction of systemic changes to address these issues. However, these recommendations were not fully implemented, prompting legal intervention.

Justice Salahuddin Panhor and Justice Umar Sial of the SHC asked the board’s counsel to submit an affidavit by September 9 to ensure the implementation of these critical reforms. Outside the courtroom, Altaf Shakur, Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, expressed hope that the court’s oversight would lead to substantial improvements, alleviating the concerns of students and parents and preventing future injustices in the examination process.
