Karachi: A week of festivities marking the 77th Independence Day at Dow University of Health Sciences wrapped up with a debate competition where teams from six universities showcased their prowess. The participating universities included NED University, University of Karachi, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Bahria University, and Jamita-ul-Rashid. The debate was structured in three rounds following the Asian Parliamentary format, culminating in a final face-off between Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Dow Medical University. The team from Dow University emerged victorious.
According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the competition engaged students in presenting research-based arguments, with the final round demonstrating a rigorous exchange of ideas. The winners, Raja Ahmed, Muhammad Azhan, and Anzalt Rahma from Dow University, clinched the title after a spirited debate. Additionally, Kinza from Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Kamran from Bahria University were acknowledged as the second best speakers. Trophies and gifts were awarded to the winners by Dr. Danish Hussain, Osama Ali, and Yamuna Hussain, representing the faculty and student leadership.
The event also included earlier competitions in national songs and skits at the Ojha campus cricket ground, featuring performances that highlighted Pakistan’s history and culture. In these competitions, Liaquat from the University of Karachi, Muhammad Hasan Imran, and Laiba Khan from Dow University received top honors for their vocal performances. The skit competition saw notable performances from various universities, with the best actor accolade going to Ryan Shaikh from Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology.
