Poonch University Vice Chancellor Encourages Intellectual Activism Among Students on Kashmir Issue

Rawalakot: At Poonch University, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Zakaria Zakir emphasized the role of intellectual power in advancing the Kashmiri freedom movement. During discussions with student delegations, he argued that awareness and knowledge are potent tools against oppression, underscoring that India’s constitutional changes cannot quell the Kashmiri quest for self-determination.

According to University of Poonch Rawalakot, Dr. Zakir spoke against the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A by the Indian government, stating that such actions cannot alter the disputed status of Kashmir, recognized in United Nations resolutions. He highlighted the global nature of the Kashmir issue and rejected any attempts to diminish its significance through local legislative changes.

Dr. Zakir praised the students from various universities in Azad Kashmir, noting their deep understanding of their rights and the broader geopolitical conflict. He pointed out that roughly 100,000 students are well-informed and actively engaged in promoting the Kashmiri cause on various platforms, including social media.

The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Kashmiri diaspora in bringing international attention to their plight. Jamia Poonch Rawalakot, he noted, is committed to educating its students about the Kashmir conflict and encourages them to become ambassadors of peace and justice on the global stage.
