President Zardari Advocates for Enhanced Pakistan-Turkmenistan Relations

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need to deepen bilateral relations with Turkmenistan across various sectors during his meeting with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday. The discussions aimed at bolstering ties through increased connectivity, trade, and educational exchanges.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the meeting highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between the two nations, with President Zardari expressing Pakistan’s commitment to fostering a shared vision for regional peace and prosperity. He underscored the significance of frequent high-level exchanges in enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration.

The President advocated for improved connectivity and communication infrastructure, suggesting that Turkmenistan capitalize on the opportunities presented by Pakistan’s Gwadar Port to boost regional trade. He also proposed expanded dialogue and cooperation in trade, economic investment, and cultural relations, which he believes are vital for the prosperity of both countries.

Additionally, President Zardari offered opportunities for Turkmen students to pursue medical education in Pakistan and noted the success of the Third Round of Bilateral Political Consultations held between the two countries’ foreign ministers.

Foreign Minister Meredov reciprocated the sentiments, affirming Turkmenistan’s intention to continue promoting economic, cultural, and educational ties with Pakistan. He highlighted ongoing projects aimed at constructing motorways and railways through Afghanistan to enhance connectivity between the two states.

The meeting concluded with mutual affirmations of goodwill and anticipation for the forthcoming visit of Turkmenistan’s Grand Leader, H.E Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Pakistan, further underscoring the friendly relations between the two nations.
