Climate Awareness Takes Center Stage in Rawalpindi with “Jagte Rahana” Play

Rawalpindi: In a cultural push to combat environmental challenges, a new play titled “Jagte Rahana” was showcased at the Punjab Arts Council. The theatrical production, under the auspices of Sar Sabz Punjab and the guidance of Chief Minister Punjab Ms. Maryam Nawaz, emphasizes the urgency of climate change issues and promotes the benefits of tree planting.

According to Punjab Arts Council, “Jagte Rahana” was penned by Sikandar Ali and orchestrated by Mian Fayyaz. The ensemble cast included Shahdaqbal, Lubna Butt, Arshad Bhatti, Ayesha Malik, Jeeva, Waleed Ali, and Hanif Kuwaiti. The event was graced by the Director of Arts Council, Sajjad Hussain, as the chief guest, with notable appearances by former director Waqar Ahmed, Deputy Director of Information Muhammad Owais, and Muhammad Safwan Munir.

The narrative of the play addresses the critical issue of climate change, a long-denied but now acknowledged global crisis of the 21st century. Trees, described as essential life-givers, symbolize the frontline defense against environmental pollution. The initiative aligns with the Punjab government’s commitment to leveraging the arts for public education on environmental conservation.

Highlighting the event’s success, Director Sajjad Hussain commended the actors for their compelling portrayal of the climate-centric message. Former Director Waqar Ahmed stressed the importance of extensive state-run campaigns to foster public awareness about the ecological and health benefits of trees and the need for increased national forest cover to meet international standards.

The event, marked by a significant turnout, underscores the community’s growing interest in climate issues and the proactive measures advocated through artistic expressions.
