PCB Chairman Engages Former Cricketers to Elevate Pakistan’s Cricket Standards

Lahore: In a significant move to enhance the quality of cricket in Pakistan, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi convened a meeting with former national cricketers to discuss development strategies aimed at strengthening both the national team’s performance and domestic cricket infrastructure. The gathering focused on various aspects of player development, with a special emphasis on enhancing domestic competitions and coaching standards.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the meeting included a comprehensive review of player fitness and performances during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Key PCB officials, including COO Salman Naseer, Director of High Performance Nadeem Khan, and other directors and committee members, also attended. The group of former cricketers brought together for this discussion included notable names like Abdur Rauf, Aamer Malik, Asim Kamal, Azhar Mahmood, and many others, who provided valuable insights and recommendations.

The participants agreed on several initiatives, such as improving the infrastructure for first-class matches and Under-19 tournaments, and increasing the number of matches played during the summer season. Suggestions also included establishing more PCB-run cricket academies across different cities and enhancing coaching quality at all levels of the game.

Chairman Naqvi expressed his commitment to implementing these suggestions and underscored the ongoing dialogue with former players as a vital component of his strategy to uplift cricket in Pakistan. He highlighted plans to utilize venues in northern areas like Abbottabad and Hunza to facilitate summer cricket and mentioned that improving coaching standards and pitch quality were high priorities for the PCB.
