Construction Begins on First SOS Children’s Village in Tharparkar, Promising Support for Disadvantaged Children

Karachi: Former Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqer, initiated the construction of the first SOS Children’s Village in Tharparkar, a milestone for the district known for its arid conditions. The new facility aims to support the upbringing, education, and care of children from the local Muslim and Hindu communities, focusing on those without parental care.

According to SOS Children’s Villages Pakistan, The ceremony was marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Justice Baqer, who lauded the contributions of women serving as caregivers in the unique SOS model. The event highlighted the potential of the SOS Village to empower Tharparkar’s children through education and love, mirroring the successes of similar initiatives in Karachi, Jamshoro, and Khairpur.

The event also served as a platform for stakeholders to express their support and discuss future contributions. Dr. Ramesh Vankwani, former MNA and Chairman of the Sital Das Premnagar Trust, detailed the donation of land for the project and its broader implications for social development in the area. Senator (retired) Javed Jabbar praised the collaborative efforts that led to significant funding from the Government of Sindh, underscoring Tharparkar’s potential as a model for communal harmony and development in Pakistan.

The new SOS Village, designed with eco-friendly and culturally sensitive architecture, is expected not only to provide a safe haven for children but also to act as a catalyst for regional development, addressing some of the most pressing challenges faced by the community.
