MoU between UCP Business School and Herbion Pakistan

In order to develop industry academia linkages, UCP Business School signed an MOU with Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. MOU signing ceremony was scheduled on Friday, 11th November,2022 at 4:00 PM in Boardroom Building C. The MOU was proposed by Ms. Syeda Uzma Tahira Senior Lecturer, Operations and Supply Chain Management and Ms. Uzma Safdar, Head of HR, Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd.

To promote the best practices of Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. amongst the students and the alumni body of UCP Business School, University of Central Punjab, Lahore by conducting informative sessions and site visits.

To develop constructive academic case studies from real-time business practices and situations to mutually facilitate the growth and development of both the parties.

To nurture the specific skill-set required at the Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. industrial facility, and to encourage the prospective future hiring from the graduates of UCP Business School.

To upgrade current understanding, skills and knowledge of UCP Business School’s participants via conferences and seminars, having senior practitioners from Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. to give career and professional advice.

To bridge the gap between the seasoned professionals and young aspiring professionals/students through mentoring and internship programs

Areas of Collaboration:

Possible areas of collaboration for the parties would be:

1. Developing linkage with corporate sector for students’ development through internship programs, academic projects and guest speaker sessions from the corporate sector.

2. Developing case studies or business scenarios from the corporate industry for students’ engagement purposes, during their tenure of studies. It would give a reflection to students, how organizations operate and challenges they face. It would be done with the consent of the respective firm.

3. Inviting representatives from the corporate sector in corporate or industrial advisory board meetings of the institution for sharing knowledge about latest skillsets required in the business industry.

4. Granting access to the corporate sector to young, energetic and motivated youth, through their recruitment drive in the university.

5. Arranging site visits for students.

6. Training sessions will be arranged for Herbion Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. employees by UCP Business School on Design Thinking and Problem Solving at Herbion Pakistan or at UCP Business School.

A team of scientists from UCP win approval of PSF project with worth 6.639 million 

Lahore, November 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):A team of scientists from University of Central Punjab (UCP), GC University Lahore, UVAS Pattoki with the industrial partner has won project titled Indigenous Technology Development worth Rs 6.7M under Pakistan Science Foundation – PSF’s Competitive Research Programme on Triple Helix Model.

Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Professor of Chemistry at UCP is the Co-Principal Investigator, while Principal Investigator is Prof. Dr. Ikram ul Haq, Professor Emeritus/ Distinguished National Professor from GC University Lahore. Other Co-PIs are Prof. Dr. Saima Ahad from UVAS, Pattoki and Dr. Ali Nawaz from GC University Lahore.

The use of antibiotics in poultry feed has been an increasing concern which affects birds’ growth. The scientific team has therefore, pooled up their resources and intelligentsia to find alternate ways. Accordingly, objective of the project is to find alternative means replacing the existing antibiotics with the natural resources including plant extracts/essential oils. The project will help to reduce the use of antibiotics by up to five times per 1 KG of the bird weight to get the similar result.

Dr. Hafiza Rizwana Kausar, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology congratulated the team of the project, especially Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh, Co-Principal Investigator of the project from UCP. She highlighted that Faculty of Science and Technology is taking initiatives to connect the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with research projects as well as taught courses offered at FOST. This project will help us in achieving the goals.

Dr. Nassar Ikram, Pro-Rector of UCP congratulated the team for undertaking applied research project under collaboration with other Universities. He appreciated the team for their resolve to address the problems of local industry to create societal impact and contribute towards SDGs. He advised the team to complete the project within the stipulated period.

Industry Visit Report Mughal Labs and Mughal Eye Hospital Trust

Mughal Eye Hospital Trust:

Mughal Eye Hospital Trust is considered to be amongst those hospitals where all eye dis eases are treated under one roof and free of cost. In this global world very few people become the guide line for others by their deeds and character, and remain alive in the history as a great social worker like Haji Bashir Ahmad Mughal (Late) and his brother Haji Nazir Ahmad Mughal (late) was the founder of Mughal Trust who have taken lead in this respect to serve the humanities to build a trust hospital.

This noble cause was strengthened by their brilliant sons, Javed Iqbal Mughal, Mohammad Tariq Iqbal Mughal and Jamshed Iqbal Mughal, who gave the nation, a precious gift in shape of Mughal Eye hospital. With the aim of providing state of the art facilities for the poor humanities. Since equipment has been imported from Japan, USA and Germany, all patients are dealt equally with the latest technology.

Mughal Diagnostic and Research Labs:

Early diagnosis is the key to a successful treatment. With lab test rates increasing day by day, it has become difficult even for middle-class people to afford these tests. Taking social responsibility, Mughal Eye Hospital Trust took the initiative and started a modern, advanced lab by the name of Mughal Labs in February 2020 where more than 700 tests are being offered at non-profit, affordable rates to all.

To extend its reach and efficacy, more than 25 collections centers have been established and free medical checkup in the form of Free Medical OPD has been started at more than 6 locations in Lahore. Early diagnosis and treatment lead to a healthy nation. OPD clinics providing free medical checkups have been started by Mughal Labs at 6 locations in Lahore in August 2021 so that no one remains undiagnosed. Specialist clinics are also being set up so that OPD patients are referred to the appropriate specialist if needed.

Brief idea of the Visit:

In order to develop practical understanding of students and to strengthen academia-industry linkage, an industry visit was organized to “Mughal Labs and Mughal Eye Hospital Trust” for BBA students on Friday,11th November 2022 at 10:00 am. The visit was organized by Ms. Syeda Uzma Tahira (Senior Lecturer Operations and Supply Chain Management). Students from Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Department and faculty members including Dr. Muhammad Zafran (Assistant Professor, Marketing) and Ms. Faghia Mazhar (Senior Lecturer, Marketing) visited the labs and hospital.

Objectives:

The objectives of the visit were

To observe and learn the operations and supply chain management activities.

To develop understanding of service design, process strategies and capacity management techniques in healthcare industry.

To have knowledge of process design, lab operations and productivity.

To enable students to see management problems in a holistic perspective and to inculcate the spirit of free inquiry.

To bridge the gap between academia and industry to facilitate future human resource development through mutually beneficial programs and activities including recruitment drives.

To develop constructive academic case studies from real time business practices and situations mutually, to facilitate the growth and development of both parties.

To discuss possibilities of future hiring, training programs and industry based projects by students and faculty.

Activities During the Visit:

Dr. Muhammad Usman Shams received the students and faculty members at Mughal diagnostic and research labs. A detailed presentation was made to explain the company’s profile, process flow and activities. Students and faculty members were divided in two groups to visit different sections of the labs and Mughal Eye Hospital Trust. During the visit students observed laboratory operations, process flow, facility layout and design, quality management activities, inventory management, storage, patient data management and customer care. After the visit a meeting between the faculty members and Director Mughal Labs was conducted to discuss following areas of collaboration between the two organization.

Guest Speaker Session 

Lahore, November 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ms. Ambreen Khursheed (Senior Lecturer and Member Council of Mentors YGA) from the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship FOMS organized an interactive and informative session on “Empowering Small Businesses through Leadership: Road to Economic Stability” for the students of UCP Business School on 14th November 2022.

The session started with the welcome address by Ms. Ambreen and she introduced the audience about the speakers and Youth General Assembly. Then, the first speaker, Mr. Mohammad Mamoon Hamid (Program Officer, PITB) was invited and he initiated the session by asking students the crucial traits of leadership and how they can build it in them. He also shared his past experiences, and how his team has transformed small business turn into large enterprises.

He educated students about how they can take a road to economic prosperity. He also took great input from students, to understand where the youth stands, what they require. After his session, Mr. Kamran Shakoor (Managing Director, YGA) presented the role and importance of YGA and how students can get benefit from joining YGA. Mr. Kamran emphasized on the important role youth can play in leadership and entrepreneurship. The session was closed with presenting souvenirs to the guests.

The faculty and students received the session well and concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ambreen. At the end of the session, Prof. Shafique Ahmed Uqaili (Officiating Dean and Director, Faculty of Management Sciences) thanked all guests on behalf of the UCP Business School for sparing their valuable time. This session represents one of the combined initiatives agreed in the MoU signed between UCP Business School and Youth General Assembly (YGA) back in September 2022.

Iqbal Day 2022 

Lahore, November 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):To commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the UCP Debating Society organized a speech competition revolving around the idea of Jawano ko Beron ka Ustad kar. The event’s chief guest was Justice Nasira Javaid Iqbal, who applauded all the speakers and reiterated Iqbal’s message of “khudi” to the youth. The event was wrapped up by music performances by Plektra Music Society. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt, Dean of FOHSS, presented a token of appreciation to the chief guest.

Introduction:

Every vertical industry presents unique supply chain challenges, but none is as complex as oil and gas. Transporting product requires special equipment, strict regulatory compliance, and extensive safety procedures. It often requires multiple modes, and involves everything from supplying materials for oil rigs to moving extremely heavy equipment and hazardous materials. Logistics in the oil and gas industry demands a great sense of urgency and need for visibility.

In order to develop practical understanding of students and to strengthen academia-industry linkage, a guest speaker session was organized on the topic “Logistics and Transportation in Oil and Gas Industry” for BBA Students on Thursday,17th of November 2022 from 12:30- 2:00 pm. The event was organized by Ms. Syeda Uzma Tahira, Senior Lecturer, Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Mr. Shahzad Ali (Corporate Head, IK Group, Pyramid Gas Pvt. Ltd.) was invited as the guest speaker.

Students from the class “Transportation and Distribution Planning” (MGMT 4673)” attended the session.

Objectives:

The guest speaker session had following objectives.

Introduce students with fundamentals of business logistics, transportation and distribution, its role and importance in oil and gas industry

Introduce students to different modes of transportation, issues of infrastructure and role of emerging technologies in transportation systems of LPG

Discuss career prospects in oil and gas industry for fresh graduates and skill set expected by the recruiters
