Singapore Red Cross pledges to support PRCS for flood victims in Sindh

Karachi, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): The management of Pakistan Red Crescent-Sindh expressed its sincere gratitude to the Singapore Red Cross and their community, who have pledged to support Pakistan Red Crescent in our humanitarian efforts in Sindh.

Singapore Red Cross (SRC) delegation comprising of Ms. Nur Hafiza bte Ab Mutalif- Executive Global Engagement, Mr. Gideon Chew Ming Kal, and Mr. Toh Kian Beng Professional Volunteers, met with Provincial Secretary of Pakistan Red Crescent-Sindh Kanwar Waseem, staff and IFRC ERU team members, at Emergency Operation Center, Hilal-e-Ahmer House, Karachi. SRC solidarity and assistance for Pakistani people in this time of need is truly appreciated. Look forward to working together for flood affectees. PRC-Sindh Secretary Kanwar Waseem presented an overview of the flood situation in Pakistan in general and Sindh in particular.

Al-Shifa Research center continues to grow, After the successful COVID-19 Phase III Clinical Trial, a new clinical trial site has been established

Rawalpindi, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): Al-Shifa Research center continues to grow. After the successful COVID-19 Phase III Clinical Trial at Al-Shifa Clinical Trial Site, a new clinical trial site has been established on the 1st floor of Children Eye Hospital. President Al-Shifa Trust, Gen (R) Rehmat Khan inaugurated the site on 31st Oct 2022.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the higher management of Al-Shifa Trust, President Al-Shifa Foundation of North America (AFNA) – Mr Tahir Zafar – CROs, Sponsors, Head of Paeds Department – Prof Dr. Sumaira Altaf and team members of Al-Shifa Research Center. CM Ch Parvez Elahi directs to constitute a high level JIT on the Wazirabad firing incident

Lahore, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in his special video message said that he inquired after Imran Khan in the Shaukat Khanum Hospital adding that Imran Khan is feeling much better. CM stated that by the grace of Allah Almighty Imran Khan is feeling perfectly alright adding that Imran Khan expressed his firm resolve not to move away from his mission. CM while expressing his thanks said that by the grace of Allah Almighty Imran Khan is safe and sound.

CM directed the Inspector General of Police to constitute a high level JIT adding that the Counter Terrorism Department will be included in the JIT so that the motives behind the incident can be reviewed. CM stated that apparently it looks that attacker is not a single person and are two persons adding that we want to know who are behind the incident and who trained the accused. He said that we have to ascertain the thinking behind which this person was trained, how much money did he receive and from where he was brought, he maintained.

It appears that first he did a practice after coming and then injured many people by doing firing. CM disclosed that mobile phones have been taken into possession after suspending the police staff which leaked the statement to the media. He underscored that we want to know with whom the police staff were in contact adding that with whom the relatives were in contact where the accused parked his motorcycle. CM stated that the investigation will be brought before the media when it moves forward and vowed to bring the accused to their logical end.

CM Ch Parvez Elahi suspends the whole police staff including SHO of the relevant police station on getting leaked the video link statement of the accused involved in the firing incident

Lahore, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi took strict notice of leaking the video link statement of the accused involved in the firing incident and suspended the SHO and the whole police staff of the relevant police station for leaking the statement of the under arrest accused. The mobile phones of all the officers and staff members of the concerned police station had been taken into possession and forensic audit of the mobile phones will be conducted. CM directed the Inspector General Police to take strict disciplinary action against the irresponsible police staff.

CM ordered to make an inquiry about the video-link statement incident being leaked and while presiding over an emergency meeting directed the IGP to put forth the motives after making an investigation. Matters pertaining to the firing incident came under review in the high level meeting. On the direction of CM Ch Parvez Elahi environmental emergency imposed in the province to avert from the hazards of smog

Lahore, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): On the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, an environmental emergency has been imposed across the province to prevent from the hazards of smog. CM while presiding over a high-level meeting to prevent from smog disclosed that the penalties are being enhanced for the institutions that cause environmental pollution and for the farmers as well who burn crops. The farmers will be provided with modern harvester namely “Hepper Seed” to dispose of crop residues. Chief Minister Parvez Elahi said that electric buses will be run in big cities with the support of the World Bank.

Loans of one billion rupees will be given to industries at low-interest rates to adopt “clear technology”. CM directed that all brick kilns will be transferred to zigzag technology. CM directed that the environment, agriculture, industries and transport departments should conduct an anti-smog campaign continuously for three months and consultation of the civil society should also be incorporated in the endeavours to eliminate environmental pollution.

The CM further directed that all the Deputy Commissioners should take vigorous action to eradicate the practice of crop burning adding that regular monitoring should be continued through the monitoring teams and the implementation on the penalty of two lakh rupees for burning crops should be ensured. Chief Minister Parvez Elahi regretted that due to the lack of control over the burning of crop residues in Indian Punjab, Pakistan dearly suffers in the form of smog. CM was apprised during the briefing that environmental pollution is being monitored in Lahore through 10 air quality monitors. 1816 FIRs have been registered in Punjab for taking preventive steps that cause environmental pollution.

Crackdown has also been launched against 90 industrial units spreading environmental pollution in Lahore. Action has also been taken at 6457 places on spreading pollution by burning crops across the province. CM directed that more effective steps should be taken for the elimination of smog across the province, the monitoring system should be made pro-active and stern action should be taken on its violation. Chief Secretary, IG Police, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Secretaries of industries, environment, agriculture and law departments, Advocate General and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

CM Ch Parvez Elahi approves increasing the daily quota of wheat in Punjab and directs to run an awareness campaign for the use of high-yielding seeds

Lahore, November 03, 2022 (PPI-OT): The first meeting of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Wheat was held in the Chief Minister’s Office under the chair of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, in which the existing reserves of wheat and the requirements were reviewed. In the meeting, a decision was taken to increase the daily quota of wheat in Punjab. Chief Minister Parvez Elahi approved increasing the quota of wheat. The Chief Minister directed the start of vigorous awareness campaigns to use high-yielding seeds and said that in this regard, an effective campaign should be run for the awareness of the farmers.

He said that Punjab will be made self-sufficient in wheat. When I left the post of chief minister in 2008, the food department had no debt. During my previous tenure, Punjab was a surplus province. Due to the incompetence of the PML-N government, the debt burden continued to increase and due to the incompetence of the PML-N government, the surplus province was stuck in the vortex of debt. The food department will be restrengthened and the burden of debt will be settled, he concluded. Secretary Food and Director Food gave a briefing regarding the position of wheat reserves.
