Sargodha: Peace, tolerance, and dialogue are crucial components for sustainable development and social cohesion, speakers at a seminar at the University of Sargodha stated, emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in cultivating an inclusive society. The event, organized by the Department of Islamic Studies, focused on the theme "Strengthening Social Cohesion Through Youth Engagement for the Promotion of Peace and Tolerance in Pakistan: An Islamic Perspective."
According to University of Sargodha, the seminar featured prominent voices like Prof Dr. Qibla Ayyaz, a member of the Shariah Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, who asserted that peace is essential for prosperity. Highlighting prayers from Islamic history, he discussed the lives of various Prophets and emphasized the model of ethical conduct and tolerance demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He encouraged youth in regions like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to adopt tolerance and participate in development initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Dr. Ghulam Hussain Babar of PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, identified youth as the nation's "greatest asset" and urged society, parents, and educators to consider their influence on young minds. He advocated for building cultural and social bridges to integrate youth and stressed the importance of social dialogue alongside economic opportunities.
Prof Dr. Feroz ud Din Shah highlighted the need for youth to find purpose beyond career ambitions, drawing on Quranic examples to warn against social arrogance. He noted the detrimental impact of excessive digital device use on social interaction and stressed the importance of purpose-driven education.
Principal College of Agriculture Prof Dr. Ijaz Rasool Norka emphasized the role of youth in enhancing Pakistan's global stature, citing Allama Iqbal's call for truth, justice, and courage. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session addressing themes of peace, tolerance, and youth engagement.
