Punjab University Hosts Academic Workshop on Pakistan Studies

LAHORE: Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre, in collaboration with the American Institute of Pakistan Studies, Islamabad, organized an academic workshop titled 'Pakistan Studies in the 21st Century: Teaching, Narratives, and Perspectives'. The event gathered prominent scholars, researchers, faculty members, and students to discuss current trends and challenges in Pakistan studies.

According to University of the Punjab, the workshop featured addresses by key figures, including Prof. Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi, Director of the Pakistan Study Centre, and Dr. Aalia Sohail Khan, Country Director of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies. Prof. Dr. Magsi highlighted the workshop's aim to foster critical engagement with national identity, historical narratives, and cultural perspectives while adapting to Pakistan's evolving global position. He emphasized the importance of innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary dialogue in making Pakistan studies relevant to contemporary realities.

Dr. Khan commended the collaborative efforts, stressing the value of academic partnerships in strengthening Pakistan studies nationally and internationally. Prof. Sikandar Hayat provided a historical overview of the discipline's evolution and advocated for a policy-oriented research approach on issues such as urbanization, demographics, and digital transformation. Prof. Dr. Hasan Askari Rizvi addressed contemporary challenges in Pakistan studies, urging thematic analytical studies and a focus on post-independence history to attract foreign researchers.
