Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari called for stronger cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia in areas of law enforcement, counter-terrorism, narcotics control, and efforts against human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari made these remarks during a meeting with Malaysia's Minister for Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for Interior & Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi. The Malaysian delegation included High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and other officials.
The President emphasized the importance of the longstanding relationship between the two countries, which is rooted in shared values and strong people-to-people ties. He acknowledged the progress in institutional cooperation, especially in internal security and immigration. Discussions also touched on increasing bilateral trade, with President Zardari highlighting the potential for greater market access in Malaysia for Pakistani products.
Minister Saifuddin noted that 2026 marks the 69th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He mentioned the current air connectivity between Pakistan and Malaysia, with 14 flights per week, and ongoing efforts to increase this frequency.
President Zardari expressed optimism that the visit would further strengthen institutional ties and deepen the multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia.
