IIUI Concludes National Outreach Program on Strategic Planning

Islamabad: The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) concluded the second day of its National Outreach Program for Higher Education Management, focusing on strategic planning and policy development for institutional growth. The event, held in collaboration with the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), featured comprehensive training sessions aimed at enhancing the strategic capabilities of higher education institutions.

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the session was led by Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kamalia. He provided an overview of university systems and governance, emphasizing the importance of strategic thinking in higher education. The session covered the distinction between strategy and strategic planning and the role of institutional policies.

Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab highlighted the significance of team-based planning and the application of SWOT analysis for assessing institutional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. He guided participants on transforming SWOT analysis into actionable strategies, focusing on strategic prioritization, defined objectives, and measurable key performance indicators (KPIs).

The session also addressed the alignment of strategy with policy and operational systems, emphasizing the importance of clear assignment of responsibilities and accountability mechanisms. Key functional areas such as human resources, finance, examinations, and information technology were discussed in the context of overall institutional strategy.

Continuous improvement was a key focus, with discussions on the use of KPIs, dashboards, departmental scorecards, and the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle. Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab stressed the need for a global strategic outlook, financial sustainability, and governance reforms in public sector universities.

The session concluded by emphasizing integrated strategic planning, policy alignment, and sustainable governance as critical for achieving long-term growth and excellence in higher education.
