Islamabad: The Yassawi Research Centre for Islamic Thought, Culture and Civilization in Central Asia was inaugurated at the Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The ceremony was led by Pakistan's Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Kazakhstan's Minister for Science and Higher Education, Mr. Sayasat Nurbek.
According to International Islamic University Islamabad, Dr. Siddiqui expressed optimism that the centre would become a focal point for scholarly traditions and knowledge in the Muslim world. He emphasized its role in promoting Islamic intellectual heritage and fostering academic ties between Pakistan and Central Asia. Mr. Nurbek highlighted the necessity for a scientific and intellectual revival in the Muslim world, noting Kazakhstan's commitment to a renewed Muslim renaissance. He recognized the changing global geopolitical landscape and Central Asia's strategic position in collaborating with the Muslim world.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President of Research and Enterprise at IIUI, remarked that the centre symbolizes the historical ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan. He said it stands as a testament to both nations' dedication to academic diplomacy and cultural dialogue. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of IRI, outlined the centre's mission and strategic objectives, while Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Vice Chancellor of the University of Narowal, provided the historical background of the centre's establishment.
The event was attended by Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, and other notable figures, including the Rector of Ahmet Yassawi International Kazakh University, and several academic and government officials.
