Lahore: A workshop organized by the Volunteers in Service Department at the University of Central Punjab focused on the reuse of materials, offering practical instruction on transforming old newspapers into eco-friendly grocery bags, gift bags, and decorative items.
The initiative emphasized the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling in daily life. Attendees were taught techniques to repurpose newspapers, a skill that volunteers plan to pass on to beneficiaries of IBTIDA, a local community organization. The aim is to enable these beneficiaries to generate income through the reuse of materials.
This workshop supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including eradicating poverty (SDG 1), ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education (SDG 4), making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable (SDG 11), ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG 12), and taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (SDG 13).
