Women University Mardan Champions Women In Leadership Roles

Islamabad: Women University Mardan (WUM) held a seminar and survey on September 23, 2025, focusing on women’s empowerment and inclusion in decision-making roles. The event, orchestrated by the Office of the Chief Proctor, underscored the university’s dedication to fostering female leadership.

While Vice Chancellor Dr. Razia Sultana was attending Defence Day ceremonies, her influence was evident in the seminar’s focus. Dr. Farha Khan, Head of the Institute of Education and Research, and Dr. Rani Begum, Head of the Urdu Department, delivered speeches highlighting the significance of women’s involvement in leadership. They stressed that female participation in decision-making is essential for a fair and progressive society.

Overseen by Chief Proctor Dr. Rashida Parveen, the seminar reinforced WUM’s pledge to cultivate confidence and resilience in its female students. A concurrent student survey explored perceptions of women’s empowerment.

The survey revealed that most respondents believe women possess equivalent leadership capabilities as men, and their exclusion hinders effective governance and peacebuilding initiatives. Cultural norms, stereotypes, and institutional obstacles were identified as primary hurdles. Students recommended leadership development programs, mentorship, and increased female representation in decision-making platforms within universities.

Numerous students and faculty actively engaged in the event, which culminated in an interactive discussion. Participants shared insights on bolstering women’s leadership roles across various levels. Attendees commended Dr. Sultana’s support and the Chief Proctor’s office for organizing the impactful seminar and survey.
