UW FM 101.8 Radio Highlights Health Risks of Trans Fats in Podcast with Afshar Iqbal

Islamabad: In a recent installment of the “UW Guest Podcast” series, UW FM 101.8 radio welcomed Mr. Afshar Iqbal, the Director of Communications and Advocacy at Pakistan Youth Change Advocates, to discuss the risks associated with trans fats and their impact on public health.

According to University of Wah, Mr. Iqbal, during his conversation with Mr. Umar Hayat Khan, the station manager, emphasized the critical role of public awareness in combating the health threats posed by trans fats. The discussion focused on the common sources of trans fats in everyday diets, highlighting foods like baked goods, fried items, and processed snacks that contain partially hydrogenated oils. Mr. Iqbal advised listeners to diligently check food labels for trans fat content and be wary of products listing “partially hydrogenated oils” or “hydrogenated oils,” as these ingredients signify the presence of trans fats.

The podcast is part of the “Transform Pakistan” initiative, which seeks to promote healthier living by educating the public on nutritional knowledge and advocating for healthier food choices. The series aligns with the University of Wah’s broader mission to enhance health and well-being through informed discussion and community engagement.
