LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) hosted a seminar at its City Campus to discuss the initiatives of the Punjab Civil Defense Resilience Corps (PCDRC) in collaboration with the Home Department Punjab. The seminar emphasized the importance of volunteerism in enhancing civil defense capabilities, particularly in responding to natural disasters.
The event was presided over by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, with Additional Secretary Home Department Punjab Asma Ijaz Cheema as the Guest of Honour. Several notable figures, including Director PCDRC Tasneem Ali Khan and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, participated in the seminar.
Ms. Cheema highlighted the critical role of civil defense in disaster relief, noting that innovative methods such as drone food delivery are being employed to reach inaccessible areas. She called on UVAS students to volunteer with Civil Defense Punjab to strengthen its resilience.
Prof Dr Muhammad Younus commended the PCDRC’s community service efforts, affirming UVAS’s support for these initiatives. He emphasized the importance of educating students to be responsible societal members who contribute positively to national development.
Director PCDRC Tasneem Ali Khan acknowledged the lifesaving contributions of the trained volunteers and shared that over 264,000 individuals from diverse fields in Punjab have been enlisted to bolster the Corps’ capabilities.
Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani pointed out UVAS’s ongoing civic engagement projects and the proactive role of its students in past disaster relief efforts. She announced future collaborations with Civil Defense Punjab to further train students in welfare activities.
