Turbat: The Institute of Balochi Language and Culture at the University of Turbat organized a one-day seminar celebrating the poetic and literary contributions of Ghulam Hussain Shohaz, a prominent Balochi poet and intellectual. The event, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, featured distinguished guest Dr. Fazal Khaliq Baloch and concluded with a musical program.
According to a statement by University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor, Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Languages and Director of IBLC, highlighted Shohaz’s significant impact on Balochi literature. He noted Shohaz’s deep connection to classical traditions, praising him as a leading poet of his era.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gul Hasan applauded the IBLC for the seminar, emphasizing the need to publish the presented research papers. He expressed his vision of making the University of Turbat a global research hub for Balochi language and literature.
The seminar featured insights from speakers including Dr. Fazal Khaliq, Dr. Tahir Hakeem, Dr. Ghafoor Shad, Shahnaz Tariq, Baloch Khan, and Iqbal Zaheer. They discussed Shohaz’s life and literary work, noting his poetry’s reflection of Balochistan’s cultural and natural beauty.
Shohaz was recognized as a crucial link between generations of Balochi poets and writers, with his works respected both within and beyond the region. The seminar’s musical segment saw Balochi singers Ustad Arif and Shahjahan Dawoodi perform Shohaz’s poetry, captivating the audience.
