UoS and Social Welfare Department Collaborate to Enhance Nutrition at Children’s Homes

Sargodha: The University of Sargodha (UoS) and the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Department, Sargodha, have entered into a three-year partnership aimed at improving nutrition and food safety at local children's homes. The collaboration focuses on enhancing dietary practices and ensuring healthier meals for residents of the Children Home (Female) and Children Home (Male) in the district.

According to University of Sargodha, the agreement was formalized by Divisional Director Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Department Shakira Noreen and Director Institute of Food Science and Nutrition, Prof. Dr. Mian Anjum Murtaza. Under this initiative, the Institute of Food Science and Nutrition will conduct regular nutritional assessments for the children, including checks for malnutrition and dietary deficiencies. The institute will also develop balanced and cost-effective diet plans tailored to age-specific needs.

The collaboration extends to providing professional advice on food safety and kitchen hygiene to ensure that the meals prepared are both safe and nutritious. Additionally, the partnership will include nutrition awareness sessions and training for both children and staff involved in kitchen and care activities. The agreement also allows for supervised internships, research projects, and community service activities for students and faculty from the Institute at the children's homes, contributing to practical learning and community engagement.

The agreement will remain in effect for three years, with the possibility of extension or renewal upon mutual consent. Present at the signing ceremony were Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Ahmad Raza Bilal, Director ORIC; Prof. Dr. Ijaz Asghar Bhatti, Director External Linkages; Prof. Dr. Tusneem Kausar; Dr. Shahid Mahmood, and Dr. Ghulam Mueen ud Din.
