Jamshoro, In a significant financial boost for its students, the University of Sindh distributed checks totaling Rs. 68 lakh 41 thousand to 172 deserving students across various batches under different scholarship programs. The ceremony, held in the Senate Hall of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, saw Vice-Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro personally awarding the scholarships. The scholarships included the National Endowment Scholarship for Talent (NEST) among others, aiming to support the educational aspirations of its students.
According to University of Sindh, the distribution included Rs. 12 lakh 32 thousand for 11 students of the 2020 batch and 7 candidates of the 2021 batch under NEST. Additionally, 40 fortunate students from the 2022 batch received a total of Rs. 24 lakh 60 thousand, and 20 students from the 2023 batch were awarded Rs. 12 lakh 60 thousand. Beyond NEST, the ceremony also celebrated the allocation of Rs. 517,000 from the Students Welfare Fund to 15 winners and Rs. 980,000 from the Sindh Educational Endowment Fund to 16 recipients. Highlighting the support for hosteler students, Dr. Kalhoro mentioned that each received Rs. 1 lakh 40 thousand under the NEST scholarship.
Dr. Kalhoro emphasized the community spirit of the Students Welfare Fund, contributed to by the university’s faculty from their salaries, providing Rs. 20 thousand to each beneficiary. The Sindh Educational Endowment Fund scholarships, offering Rs. 33 thousand per student, further exemplified the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and relieving the financial burdens of its students.
The event was attended by notable university officials including Registrar and Director Students Financial Aid Office Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ali Jariko, Pro Vice Chancellor Lad Campus Badin Prof. Dr. Khalilur Rehman Khombati, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Agha Asad Noor, and Director Institute of Art and Design Saeed Ahmed Mangi, among others, underscoring the institution’s collective effort in supporting student welfare and academic achievement.
