University of Sargodha Hosts Farmer Field Day to Boost Citrus Industry

Sargodha: In an initiative aimed at enhancing the productivity and market competitiveness of the citrus industry, the University of Sargodha recently organized a Farmer Field Day at Chak 118 NB. The event, held under the Citrus Value Chain Project, is supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

According to University of Sargodha, the gathering provided a platform for citrus growers, rural women, and agricultural experts to exchange experiences and assess progress made under the project. Project Team Leader Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Ullah emphasized the initiative's goal of improving fruit quality, introducing efficient marketing strategies, and increasing farmer profitability through research-driven interventions.

Dr. Luqman highlighted the critical role of farmer engagement and practical demonstrations in the adoption of modern production and post-harvest practices. Faculty members and stakeholders, including Dr. Raheel Anwar and Malik Abdul Rehman, addressed field-level challenges and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to bolster the citrus supply chain.

Principal of the College of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ijaz Rasool Noorka, described the project as a key step in bridging the gap between research and farming communities. Project Officer Dr. Ahsan Qureshi and others acknowledged the active involvement of farmers and the guidance of national and Australian experts, such as Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sattar and Dr. Raj, in the project's implementation.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session that focused on sustainable practices and market-oriented citrus development in the region.
