Chitral: The University of Chitral hosted its biannual Green Day Celebration on August 12, 2024, focusing on the vital role of afforestation in combating climate change effects, such as carbon emissions and global warming.
According to University of Chitral, the event was organized by the Department of Botany in collaboration with the Forest Department of Chitral. Dr. Sana Ullah, Pro-vice Chancellor and Head of the Department of Sociology, served as the chief guest. The celebration also featured Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral, Mr. Mohsin Iqbal, as the guest of honor, along with experts from the forest, agriculture, and soil conservation departments.
Discussions highlighted the urgency of reforestation efforts, particularly in light of recent floods that have severely impacted the region’s biodiversity. The ceremony included planting Deodar saplings on university grounds and distributing saplings among students and staff to promote personal involvement in local ecosystem restoration efforts.
