TNFJ Criticizes Punjab Government’s SOPs as Human Rights Violations

Islamabad: The Tehreek Nafaze Fiqhe Jafariya (TNFJ) has strongly criticized the Punjab government’s recently implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that restrict gatherings within homes and enclosed spaces, labeling these measures as violations of human rights. During the annual funeral ceremony at Qasr Zainab (AS) Imam Bargah, TNFJ leaders voiced concerns over these restrictions and other government actions affecting religious practices.

According to Tehreek Nafaze Fiqhe Jafariya, Allama Raja Bisharat Hussain Emami, the central secretary-general of TNFJ, expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s enforcement of these SOPs, which also includes a ban on constructing new mosques and Imam Bargahs. This, he argues, mocks the National Action Plan intended to bolster national security and social harmony. Emami emphasized the need for the government to adhere to historical agreements like the Mousa Junejo agreement of 1985 that safeguard public gatherings and religious expressions.

The ceremony highlighted various issues including the forced arrest of TNFJ’s Federal Capital President, the prohibition on mentioning Imam Hussain (AS), and the broader implications for Pakistan’s ideological stance. Emami called for immediate action against administrative officials who tarnish the government’s reputation by enforcing these restrictive measures.

TNFJ reiterated its commitment to the mourning codes established by religious scholars and demanded that the government respect the rights of mourners across the country. The leaders also called for a thorough implementation of the National Action Plan in its true spirit to ensure peace and respect for religious freedoms in Pakistan.
