Similarly, 55 BS students were given checks amounting to Rs. 2750,000 by Sindh HEC. At the ceremony, checks of Rs 172.43 million were issued to 284 students from Sindh government scholarships. The University of Sindh deducted the annual fees of deserving students with merit and gave them checks for the remaining amount. Students who have already paid the fee will submit an application to the Student Financial Aid Office, after which checks will be issued to them within 15 days.
Addressing the event, Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro said that in 2020 HEC was asked to release money for 700 students under Ehsaas Scholarship, but during an online meeting with HEC officials he was asked for another 500 scholarships, on which he placed 400 students on the waiting list. Similarly, another 2400 children will soon be given checks for various scholarships. He said that not a single rupee of the money coming for the students would be wasted and they would be released on time so that they could continue their education.
He said that the total number of scholarship recipients in Sindh University under 14 programs has now reached 4,000. He said that the University of Sindh has hostel facilities for 350 PhD teachers and 5,000 children, the number of qualified teachers and hostels is not available in any other university in Sindh. He said that it has been decided to give one day break in the next semester examinations so that the students can take the exams without any hassle.
Dr Kalhoro said that it is necessary to pass the papers to get the scholarship, so the students should work hard. He said that Rs. 1500 million was taken from the Sindh government as a special grant, out of which Rs. 500 million was approved, which has reduced the debt burden of the university.
He said that the loan taken from the bank was repaid as interest of Rs. 26 lakh was being paid on the loan. After avoiding interest for a month, salaries have been paid again this month by taking a loan from a bank. He said that if the admission fee had come in June, he would not have had to take a loan. He said that no matter what the financial situation, not a single rupee would be spent from the scholarship money of the students.
