Students of Dawood Public School Raise Funds for Indus Hospital and Health Network

Karachi, March 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): Indus Hospital and Health Network is proud to join hands with Dawood Public School to work towards the betterment of the health of underprivileged communities across Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, Founding President of Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), visited Dawood Public School (DPS) on March 28, 2023. There he gave an inspiring speech to the young students, and – citing IHHN as a unique example – encouraged the children to dream big and work for the betterment of less privileged communities surrounding them. Following Dr. Bari’s speech, the students handed over the donations collected in their Indus Tarbiyat boxes. All proceeds will be used to provide free-of-cost, quality care for children with cancer at IHHN’s dedicated paediatric oncology facilities.

During his visit, DPS also conducted several activities in celebration of Pakistan Resolution Day. The students performed a lively and engaging skit in which they took on the roles of famous leaders of the Pakistan movement and shared their thoughts about what those leaders would have to say to the youth of current-day Pakistan. The celebrations helped to invoke a spirit of patriotism among all those gathered and highlighted the importance of working together to serve our fellow citizens in need.

Indus Hospital and Health Network is grateful to the students of Dawood Public School for their contribution towards IHHN’s noble cause. As part of the youth of Pakistan, IHHN is committed to empowering these students to become ambassadors of change who will lead Pakistan into a brighter and healthier future.

Indus Hospital and Health Network Launches Innovative Tele-Emergency Medicine Project

Karachi, March 25, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Tele-Emergency Medicine (EM) Project is the first of its kind endeavour, initiated by IHHN’s Emergency Department for the provision of holistic patient care at District Headquarter (DHQ) hospitals in Badin and Gwadar. Indus Hospital and Health Network held the inaugural ceremony of the Tele-EM project on March 24, 2023. The Tele-EM project aims to extend 24/7 real-time teleconsultations from Qualified EM physicians from the Emergency Department (ED) at Indus Hospital, Korangi Campus, for High Acuity adult patients presenting in the EDs of DHQ Hospitals in Badin and Gwadar. This service will regulate the management of acute emergencies, train EM physicians onsite, and streamline ED process flow and floor dynamics in the DHQ hospitals.

Emergency care is an important component of a health care system needed to effectively manage acute care illnesses. Despite its rising demand in Pakistan, the field has been under prioritized and faces a dire lack of resources and competent healthcare professionals. In Pakistan, the health sector is plagued with limited resources and trained personnel. 75% of the Pakistani population lives in rural areas and is served by only 22 % of doctors. Remote and rural areas lack specialty services, trained personnel, and appropriate equipment. This creates a hiatus in the delivery of adequate emergency care.

Tele-EM, despite being an under-explored field in Pakistan, has great potential to improve the quality of services, and patient outcomes in remote health centers. Through this service, underserved healthcare facilities may be able to access specialist support that is otherwise lacking. IHHN’s Tele-EM Project endeavour to uphold the vision of IHHN and provide access to free-of-cost quality healthcare to all patients in need. Overall, the initiative will work to reduce disease burden, patient mortality, ED waiting times, and length of stay, and improve patient satisfaction at the IHHN-managed DHQ Hospitals.

In addition, the project will empower IHHN’s workforce with the expertise to identify and effectively manage acute emergencies, provide initial care, and practice safe transfers where required. Currently, the Tele-EM Project services are extended at the IHHN-managed DHQ hospital in Badin. In the future, this project will be launched at DHQ Hospital in Gwadar as well. Dr. Sama Mukhtar, Consultant, EM, IHHN, led the inaugural ceremony, which was attended by IHHN’s senior leadership, including Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, President; Dr. Syed Zafar Zaidi, CEO; Dr. Abdul Karim Paracha, Chairman of IHHN’s Board of Directors; and Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf, Executive Director, Medical Services.

Also present were Mr. Shakeel Akhtar, Chief Information Officer; Dr. Ashar Alam, Medical Director, IHHN Korangi Campus; Dr. Saima Ali, Head, EM Department; Dr. S. Ghazanfar Saleem, Chair EM Services; Dr. Adeel Khatri – Consultant, EM; Imran Jamal; and Tariq Aziz, nursing.

Pakistan Day Celebrations 2023

Karachi, March 23, 2023 (PPI-OT):Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) celebrated Pakistan Day with its paediatric patients. The children participated in many activities including a parade, storytelling, sing-a-long of the national anthem and national songs, games and creative art and craft activities. The activity was organized and curated by volunteer students from British Overseas School. These activities aim to address the psychosocial needs of the children, helping them build resilience, express their emotions through art and improve their overall psychosocial well-being.

Coping with chronic illnesses or other health issues can be emotionally challenging for children and can sometimes lead to anxiety and social isolation. Engaging children in such activities can also help them enhance their confidence and reduce stress. This can have a significant impact on their well-being and helps them cope with their health issues in a positive manner. The event provided an opportunity for these patients to socialize with other children and feel a sense of belonging while also learning about their country.
