GIK Organizes 4th International Pak-Turk Conference on Science and Engineering 

Swabi, November 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):On 3rd – 4th November 2021, the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology organized the 4th Pak-Turk international conference on Emerging Technologies in the field of Sciences and Engineering. The conference consisted of Turkish and Pakistani speakers from around the globe. Various experts and scholars who work in diverse fields participated in the conference, expressed their views and spoke on different topics related to engineering education and scientific developments. Speakers in the two-day International Conference encouraged young scientists to catch up the new emerging trends in the field of science and technology, as this is vital for the progress and economic prosperity of Pakistan and Turkey.

This is the fourth consecutive year that GIK is organizing this international event. This year the conference was arranged in collaboration with a local university, i.e., University of Wah (UoW). About 100 research papers were submitted for the conference, of which only 25% were accepted for Scopus indexing. The online conference was attended by almost 250 plus individuals through video link.

Furthermore, the conference was streamed live on Facebook making it visible and accessible to everyone, and hence was able to capture a large audience around the globe. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary H.I., S.I., T.I. Director, Husein Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry and the Coordinator General COMSTECH was the Chief Guest in the inaugural ceremony. Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI also participated in the conference.

The prominent Turkish experts who spoke in the conference were: Prof. Dr. Nihal Buyukcizmeci (Selcuk University), Prof. Dr. Meryem Seferinoglu (Sinop University), Prof. Dr. Tuncay Bayram (Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon), Prof. Dr. Serdar Unlu (Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University), Prof. Dr. Dogan Aydin (Izmir Demokrasi Universitesi), and Dr Umit Akinci (Dokuz Eylul Universitesi) and various others. The Turkish scholars lauded the GIK Institute’s concentration on result-oriented research work and for organizing the 4th international conference.

The Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, H. E. Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul also attended the conference. He said that the whole world is transitioning and lauded the GIK Institute for taking the initiative of organizing the international conference on emerging technologies. He further said that these technologies would define the world we know and hoped that both the countries become one of the pioneers of these emerging technologies.

Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI, Rector of GIK Institute said in the closing ceremony that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy good working relations and the interaction between the scholars and researchers of the two brotherly Muslim countries could further boost the mutual collaboration. The conference series has provided an ideal platform for such interaction and collaboration, he mentioned. Furthermore, he thanked the entire ETSE2021 and the organizing team for doing a wonderful job.

The efforts of Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un-Nabi, (VC, UoW) in making the conference a success was acknowledged by local and foreign speakers at the conference. The conference Patron in Chiefs also acknowledged the support of Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan, (Pro-Rector, Academics), and Mr. Sardar Aminullah Khan (Pro-Rector, Administration and Finance) in making the conference a success. The other members of the conference organizing committee included: Dr. Zahid Haim, Dr. Shamsher Sadiq, and Dr. Syed Waqas Hassan.

GIK Institute and QAU sign MoU to promote academic, research and development activities 

Swabi, November 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic, research and development activities. The MoU was inked by Rector GIK Institute, Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid and Vice-Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali in a ceremony on November 2, 2021.

Sardar Aminullah Khan, Pro-Rector administration and Finance, Prof Dr Waseem A Khan, Pro-Rector (Academics) and other officials of GIK institute also graced the ceremony. Prof Dr Muhammad Ali was warmly welcomed by the Rector. Dr Tasawar Hayat was accompanied him.

The two universities agreed to exchange academic/research information and material, conduct lectures and organize symposiums as well as promoting collaboration in the field of mutual interest. The MoU also covers mutual collaboration between the two universities to undertake research and development related projects. Terms and conditions for each project will be separately negotiated and documented based on mutual agreement.

Implementation of any of the type of cooperation shall depend upon the availability of resources and financial support from the two varsities and they may share financial resources necessary for the completion of joint research projects/programs, says the MoU, adding that the financial arrangement relating to each activity will be in accordance with the corresponding agreement covering that activity.

For faculty/student/staff exchange related to academic or research and development work, the appropriate academic/administrative staff of both the parties will work together and for any IP, patent or publication produced under the MoU, both the Parties shall seek an equitable and fair agreement of ownership by signing a separate agreement for the underlying activity that resulted in the IP/patent/publication.

It was made clear that neither Party shall use the name or logo of the other Party for any purpose whether in relation to any advertisement or other form of publicity without obtaining the prior written consent of the other Party. This MoU becomes effective on the day of signing, and will continue for an initial period of three years but it may be reviewed or extended anytime by mutual written agreement of both the Parties.

The agreement will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the country. Later on, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali also planted a sapling in the lush green campus of the Institute and addressed the faculty members and students. He said that GIK Institute has well qualified faculty and they groomed the students who really made a name in national and multinational companies.

Launch of New GIK Website 

Swabi, November 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):The GIK new website launch ceremony was held on 3rd November 2021 at 4:30 pm in New Academic Block Conference Room. Honourable Rector, Pro-Rectors, Deans, Directors and IT Department participated in this ceremony. The Rector inaugurated the ceremony and made the new website live by clicking a launch button. The Rector appreciated the efforts of IT Department especially Senior Software Developer for developing this new website. He emphasized on making further improvements in the new website and asked all faculty members to provide contents related to their faculty/departments.

The content includes the pictures of students’ various activities in labs and other areas of Campus, information of the seminars, workshops and conferences held in GIK or elsewhere. The information of these activities should be uploaded on social media and GIK website. He once again thanked all participant of the ceremony.

Plantation Drive 2021

Swabi, November 03, 2021 (PPI-OT):Plantation drive was led by Sumaira Siddique, Student Wellness Counsellor from Student Affairs department at GIK Institute on 31st October 2021. It is joint venture of student affairs department and 8 different societies in the drive. Four distinct locations were designated for plantation, 104 olive trees, and 96 pine trees were planted. It is a great initiative towards the conservation of the environment and SDGs.

Project Topi was main lead and media club was official coverage partner. While, AIESEC, GMS, LES, LDS, ICE, GIKI Science Society participated in the drive to present the coordinated and life enhancing effect of the social culture here at GIK.

Kashmir Black Day 

Swabi, November 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and Kashmiris in all over the world observed Black Day on Wednesday (October 27, 2021) to mark the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India on October 27, 1947. It was on this day when the Indian troops invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it in a blatant violation of the Partition Plan of the subcontinent and against the Kashmiris’ aspirations.

The Debate Team of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute hosted a public session on 27th October 2021 at 7PM Main lecture hall FMCE to raise awareness about the Kashmir and Black Day. They showcased an intense Asian Parliamentary style debate on the motion “This House as Pakistan should support Kashmiri freedom fighters” in which they debated on the impacts of freedom fighters on the Kashmir, what role should Pakistan take in order to support Kashmir the best without risking its own political stability.

Furthermore, The Urdu Debate Team of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute gave engaging declamation on the Kashmir issue in order to spread the word about the Indian oppression on Kashmir this day.

GIK Team Hammerhead secures 1st Position in the Shell Eco-Marathon Pakistan 2021 in the battery-electric prototype category 

Swabi, October 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Established in 2009, Team Hammerhead from the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute has been a representative from Pakistan in the Shell-Eco Marathon Asia for the past 12 consecutive years. Shell Eco-Marathon Asia is a platform for students to solve trade-offs between nature preservation and the technological advancements altering human needs every day. Students around the world compete against each other to build the most fuel-efficient car and help the world become a better place to live in.

This year, Shell provided the opportunity to prepare students for the international event by organizing a national-level Shell Eco-Marathon in Pakistan dated 14 October 2021. The teams from all over Pakistan competed in the battery-electric and urban gasoline category. Team Hammerhead became the winner in the battery-electric prototype category, outperforming the team from NUST institute.

Achievements:

Recognized for the overall Outstanding Communication and Marketing campaign, beating all the teams irrespective of their category.

Completed the maximum required number of laps of the circuit (10 Laps, 5 km)

Competed in the innovation challenge by implementing real-time data monitoring sensors for the internal temperature of the vehicle and the heart rate of the driver.

Presented the first-ever carbon fiber monocoque design fabricated by Team Hammerhead in Pakistan.

Received gift hampers worth 25,000 PKR each to the team’s ten participating members.

The team is ecstatic and hopes to build on the ever-improving string of results. The team is looking forward to raising the country’s flag even higher and hopes to bring further good news to the advancement of electric vehicles in the automobile industry of Pakistan.
