GIKI Alumnus Mr. Gul Waqar Khan (Batch 6) won the prestigious Bell Labs’ DMTS Award 2022 

Swabi, May 13, 2022 (PPI-OT):𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐮𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐪𝐚𝐫 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧 won the prestigious Bell Labs (DMTS) award, in 2022. The DMTS award is conferred by Nokia annually to honour technical excellence and sustained R and D contributions to the company and industry.

Mr. Gul Wiqar graduated from GIK Institute from FEE and completed his MS in Telecommunication from Helsinki University of Technology Finland.

BARD Foundation and GIK Signed a MoU to establish Descon Endowment Fund

A Plantation Drive by the Student Affairs Department 

Swabi, April 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Student Affairs Department organized a Plantation Drive at the GIK Institute on 8th, 11th and 14th March, 2022. More than 500 trees were planted including Arjuna, Kachnar, Amaltas, Pines, Magnolia, Sukh Chain, Patangen, Jakaranda, Lemon, Zaitoon, Alostonia covering different spots of GIK Institute. Honourable Rector Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, SI was the chief guest of the plantation drive.

Pro Rector (Academics) Prof. Dr. Wasim Ahmad Khan also participated in the plantation drive. It is a step taken by the Student Affairs Department towards sustainable conservation of the environment. Mr Sabahat Hussain (Assistant Director Student Affairs, SA Department) was the coordinator of the plantation drive along with the help of the GIK Student Societies (Project Topi, Character Building Society, SOPHEP) and horticulture department.

The sole purpose of the plantation drive was to be mindful of the Clean and Green Environment. Trees greatly benefit the people living around them by having a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing, reducing stress and encouraging outdoor exercise.

GIK’s Project Makes History: Mind Braille Won Microsoft Imagine Cup in Europe, Middle East, and Africa Region

Introduction

Every year Microsoft conducts flagship technology competition, the Imagine Cup. The competition is a global challenge to innovate and solve critical problems of today’s world. The competition is largely considered as the global Olympics of innovation and technology. It involves a jam-packed schedule with multiple stages of evaluation led by world renowned technology and business experts. This year, Microsoft celebrated the 20th anniversary of Imagine Cup bringing the competition to unfathomed heights. More than 10,000 student teams registered this year from around the globe marking the maximum participation ever achieved. Each team included students ranging from multidisciplinary backgrounds and educational levels.

GIK’s Participation

A Final Year Project group, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zahid Halim, applied in the Imagine Cup 2022 with their project “Mind Braille”. The group members include Muhammad Hanzla Javaid, Muhammad Usman Zeb, and Abdul Rafay.

About the project

Mind Braille is a software that allows people with disabilities to perform activities on smartphones. The application achieves this target by creating a portable brain computing interface. With the help of low-cost EEG devices, Mind Braille can analyze and decode brain waves into relevant brain commands. Based on these commands, Mind Braille executes routine smartphone actions like Calls, SMS, Emails, Scheduling, Games, News, and much more. Bridging the gap between people with disabilities and smartphones, Mind Braille has the potential to bring 15% of the population, more than 1 billion people with disabilities, into the sphere of the digital economy, productivity, and connectivity.

Pakistan National Finals

Pakistani students actively participated in this competition with great passion. More than 700 teams registered for the national level championship of Imagine Cup 2022. GIKI’s FYP team got declared as the winner of Pakistan National Finals alongside a team from UET Peshawar and FC College Lahore. This milestone awarded each team a prize of RS150,000 and $1000 Azure cloud credits.

World Finals

Every national level winner from participant countries advanced to the world finals. A total of 48 teams made it to the prestigious stage of world finals. The finals were initially scheduled to be held at Microsoft’s headquarter in Washington but later were adjusted for online procedure due to COVID 19 restrictions.

The 48 teams were pooled in their geographical regions including Americas, Asia, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). Pakistani teams are pooled at EMEA, the largest region for the Imagine Cup. At this stage of world final, GIKI’s team stood as winner of Lifestyle category. Microsoft awarded GIKI’s team a total prize of $5000 on this great achievement. This is the first time in the history of Microsoft Imagine Cup that a team from Pakistan acquired the prestigious spot of winning at an entire region.

GIK Alumnus, Muhammad Meraj Uddin, Founder and CEO ADF International Donates Leeb Hardness Tester, Sponsors an FYP Project

Swabi, April 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):GIK Alumnus Muhammad Meraj Uddin, Founder and CEO of ADF International Pvt Ltd, has donated the Leeb Hardness Tester machine and sponsored an FYP Project for the students of Mechanical Engineering. He said that ADF International Pvt Ltd is proud to announce its collaboration with Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Science and Technology (GIKI) in development, improvement, innovation, and progress in the field of Engineering.

The Founder and CEO of ADF International Pvt Ltd has donated the “Leeb Hardness Tester” to Dr. Massab Junaid, a Senior Researcher in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department, and sponsored a group of students for their FYP project titled “Sensor Assisted Electric Vehicle with Individual Wheel Rotation in 2D”.

He added that the company works with the ideology of “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” The company aims to produce in-house equipment and appliances fulfilling international standards, having state-of-the-art quality and safety standards. Talking about their future aspirations, he said, “we are looking forward to commercializing our products at the national and international level and bringing glory to Pakistan.”

ADF Didactic (Turkey) is primarily a manufacturer of aviation equipment, but they also have a wide range of Mechanical engineering lab equipment such as Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, etc. The company also provides solutions in Workshop tooling, CNCs, and Robotics as well.

Raja Muhammad Sameer GIK Student have qualified for the world finals of Red Bull Paper Wings 2022 Competition

Swabi, April 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Raja Muhammad Sameer a final year student of Mechanical Engineering at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology Topi, have qualified for the world finals of Red Bull Paper Wings 2022 Competition. The final will be held in Austria where 63 countries will be competing.

Red Bull Paper Wings 2022 is the paper plane competition held globally at Red Bull Hangar-7, Salzburg Austria in which 63 countries will be participating. There are three categories distance, time, and acrobatics. Only one person from a country in each category will be selected for world finals. In the distance category, a candidate must make a plane with A4 sheet with given rules.

Red bull team visited GIK Institute and conducted the Red Bull Paper Wings 2022 competition. Raja Muhammad Sameer a final year student of GIK Institute won the completion of the distance category at the Institute Level.

The 2nd phase of the competition were the regional finals in Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex Rawalpindi. Qualifiers of the 1st round from different universities including NUST, SZABIST and participants from all Islamabad /Rawalpindi region were competing. Raja Muhammad Sameer paper plane went to 41m in distance and won the regional finals.

The 3rd phase of the competition was National finals, and it was held in Karachi where finalist from all over Pakistan were competing. Raja Muhammad Sameer won the National Final.
