All-Pakistan Women Universities Consortium organized the first Conference on Women in Leadership in Collaboration with HEC and British Council Pakistan

Rawalpindi, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): To celebrate International Women’s Day, the All-Pakistan Women Universities Consortium (APWUC) organized the first All Pakistan Women Universities Conference on Women and Leadership with the support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and British Council. The conference aimed to devise ways to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in Pakistan. Female Vice Chancellors from all seven member universities, including FJWU, Government College Women University Faisalabad, Lahore College for Women University, Government College Women University Sialkot, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Women University Swabi, and Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur, jointly organized the event.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor, FJWU, proposed a four-point agenda for the consortium, including focusing on sustainability, participatory approaches, identifying priority areas, and establishing clear structures for effective strategy building. She stressed the importance of young energies and synergies to ensure the consortium’s progress and sustainability. Dr. Irene Tracy, Vice Chancellor, University of Oxford, congratulated the female Vice Chancellors and informed about the measures they are taking in the UK to support British women. Dr. Rubina Farooq, Vice Chancellor, Government College Women University, Faisalabad, stressed on increasing women’s visibility on all important platforms to support each other, while Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor, Lahore College for Women University, emphasized the importance of keeping one’s ambitions high and fighting inner fears.

Dr. Rukhsana Kausar, Vice Chancellor, Government College Women University Sialkot, highlighted the need for a future roadmap in the form of specific universities and stressed that women are emotionally intelligent and can prove better managers, which they must utilize. Dr. Safia Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, highlighted the need for a bio-based innovative economy and stressed the importance of university-industry collaboration to make research more effective. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Vice Chancellor, Women University Swabi, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and putting universities on the path of innovation through business to support the national economy. Dr. Saiqa Imtiaz Asif, Vice Chancellor, Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur, pledged her full support for the consortium online.

Dr Shahnaz Wazir Ali from University also addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of devising effective strategies for the training of young female faculty recruited in the universities. Dr. Kanwal from the Home Economics Lahore stressed on the importance of building effective networks and collaborative team work to achieve the tasks at hand.

Professor Dr. Mahmood ul Hassan from HEC (Former Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University) and Dr. Sahista Naqvi applauded Dr. Saima Hamid’s vision for bringing together all the Vice Chancellors and highlighted the importance of effective coordination for devising a future roadmap and achieving the consortium’s goals. All involved Female Vice Chancellors unanimously agreed to prioritize areas and congratulated Dr. Saima Hamid for hosting the conference secretariat and appreciated her hard work and vision. The HEC and British Council offered their support in the form of technical, knowledge sharing, goodwill, and financial incentives.

The consortium will arrange a capacity-building project and a series of webinars and seminars in different member and non-member universities to make it more effective and meaningful. Media Brief of Opening Ceremony of 1st FJWU International Multidisciplinary Conference 8-9 March 2023 Titled: Women Education and Society

Rawalpindi, March 10, 2023 (PPI-OT): 1st FJWU International Multidisciplinary Conference was held in Fatima Jinnah Women University for 8th and 9th March 2023. Today was the inaugural ceremony of the conference. The conference was organized as part of the university’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations. The central idea behind the conference is to promote interdisciplinary projects, studies and prepare the next generation for the academic challenges of the next century.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Dr. Saima Hamid, emphasized on the role of the conference in providing a platform to discuss and deliberate on some of the most pressing issues of our time, particularly those related to women’s empowerment and gender equality. She further expressed her deep gratitude to all the former Vice chancellors of FJWU for their kind presence at the inaugural ceremony of the conference.

She mentioned that 25 years of Higher Education contribution by FJWU was only possible because of the strong contribution of all visionary female Vice Chancellors who took the progress and development of this institution as a mission to serve the nation. Prof. Dr. Najma Najam, first Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

She spoke about the importance of women leadership for bridging gender inequality and how Fatima Jinnah Women University played its vital role in this scenario. She also highlighted the challenges and struggles she overcame as the first female Vice Chancellor of Public Sector Women University in Pakistan which paved the way of comfort for the future female Vice Chancellors, faculty members and young female graduates.

She also highlighted the role played by the renowned educationist and eminent scholar Dr. Iftikhar-UN-Nisa Hassan during the foundation building of the first ever public sector women university of Pakistan. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, former Vice Chancellor of FJWU, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Saeeda Asadullah Khan former Vice Chancellor of FJWU.

All two former Vice Chancellors also applauded the visionary leadership of Current Vice Chancellor Dr. Saima Hamid who gathered them all together on the celebrations of Silver jubilee year. Dr. Saima thanked all the former Vice chancellor for their respective contributions towards this institution and appreciated their presence in today’s conference. Saima announced that this conference is going to be an annual event and all departments will collectively contribute towards this.

This year the theme of the conference was Women Education and Society. Two plenary sessions were organized for the first day of the conference. The first session titled: Women in Science Education with the sub themes of Engineering and Technology, Biological and Mathematical Sciences.

The conference aimed at bringing together educators, researchers, and professionals from a variety of fields to discuss and exchange ideas on the current state of science education, as well as future directions and best practices.

The second session was titled Women and Entrepreneurship with the aim of bringing together researchers, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to discuss the latest research and insights on the topic of women’s entrepreneurship.

The conference helped in generating new knowledge and ideas and promoted the exchange of best practices and strategies for supporting and promoting women’s entrepreneurship. Conference will conclude tomorrow after the closing ceremony on March 9, 2023.

FJWU Ranks 801 in Top 1000 International Universities in Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 

Rawalpindi, April 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):Fatima Jinnah Women University is geared towards contributing in the sustainable development of the country. The vision of the university is to aspire and innovate for a sustainable future by promoting higher education, research, collaboration and community engagement to achieve societal empowerment. The University is consolidating and advancing its academic achievements, research productivity and community impact by focusing on Sustainable Development Goals.

A large number of courses offered at the university under different programs and the research carried out by faculty members and students in varied fields cater to addressing and achieving sustainable development goals. The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking is a global ranking that assesses participating universities’ impact on society in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In this regard, the university participated in Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, and has been ranked 801 among top 1000 world universities, out of a total of 1,406 Universities from 106 countries/regions, which applied for Impact Ranking. Rawalpindi, March 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The fund-raising activity, organized by Department of Urdu Zaban o Adab intends to organize a one-day International Hybrid Conference on the Nazam of Faiz Ahmed Faiz a famous Pakistani poet:

“Lot Jati Hai Idhar Ko Bhi Nazar Kya Kijiye”

Faiz Ahmed Faiz was a Pakistani poet, and author in Urdu Punjabi language. He was one of the most celebrated writers of the Urdu language in Pakistan. Faiz was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature and won the Lenin Peace Prize.
