Islamabad: Swiss Ambassador to Pakistan, His Excellency George Steiner, highlighted the critical role of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in assisting flood-affected families and addressing the severe impacts of climate change in Pakistan. During a meeting with PRCS Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmad Laghari at the Swiss Embassy, discussions covered Pak-Swiss relations, mutual cooperation, and the broader humanitarian challenges posed by global warming.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the meeting between Ambassador Steiner and Chairman Laghari delved into various aspects of the partnership between Switzerland and Pakistan. The ambassador expressed his concerns about Pakistan’s ranking as seventh on the climate risk index, underscoring the pressing need for increased efforts and stringent measures to combat climate change. He praised the leadership of Chairman Laghari for taking significant steps to modernize the PRCS and strengthen diplomatic ties, as well as for the ongoing and planned initiatives aimed at serving humanity.
Ambassador Steiner also promised new avenues of support for PRCS. The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative souvenirs, symbolizing a commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations in facing humanitarian challenges.
