Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) tri-series in Pakistan, marking a significant step in the country's preparations for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027. The squad, led by captain Kusal Mendis, features a mix of experienced players and emerging talent as Sri Lanka aims to build a strong core for the future.
According to International Cricket Council, the squad includes top-order batters such as Avishka Fernando, Kamil Mishara, and Pavan Rathnayake, with middle-order options including Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, and Janith Liyanage. Former captain Dasun Shanaka is set to provide all-round support alongside spin-bowling all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. The bowling lineup is spearheaded by Maheesh Theekshana and wrist-spinner Sachindu Colombage, complemented by pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka, and Eshan Malinga.
Opening batter Pathum Nissanka has also been named in the squad, although his participation is contingent upon medical clearance. Following a three-match T20I series against the hosts, Sri Lanka will compete in the ODI tri-series alongside Pakistan and England, starting October 18.
